Nonin announces regional oximetry devices that can be used with an iPhone

Nonin Medical has announced that it will be demonstrating the world’s smallest regional oximetry system and the first Apple iPhone/iPod-enabled oximeter at MEDICA in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Regional oximetry (rSO2) is a monitoring tool that continuously detects the oxygen saturation status in the brain and tissue beneath the sensor noninvasively.

It is typically used in intensive care environments.

The regional oximetry system consists of Nonin’s SenSmart Universal Oximetry signal processor with an embedded battery and Bluetooth Smart wireless technology. This technology allows the oximetry system to connect to any monitor utilizing Bluetooth Smart. It also plugs into Nonin sensors for both regional oximetry and pulse oximetry interchangeably. It will be demonstrated with connectivity to an iPad.

The iPhone/iPod-enabled oximeter is a sleeve that fits fourth generation iPhones and iPods and contains an embedded Nonin SenSmart Regional Oximetry sensor. Once attached to a site of interest–such as a forehead–it displays measurements both numerically and graphically on the screen of the Apple device used. Its software allows for the data to be reviewed, saved or sent.

Nonin Medical’s Chief Technology Officer explains, “When Nonin invented the first fingertip and wireless fingertip pulse oximeters, we enabled pulse oximetry monitoring to expand beyond clinician use and hospital settings in convenient, affordable ways. Similarly, we anticipate that these investigative technologies — because of their compact size, portability and connectivity — could bring more convenience, value, functionality and choice to the marketplace.”

The technologies are still investigational and there is no timetable set for commercialization.

Kite aerial photography just got easier with an iPhone onboard the Sparrowscope

With all the news lately about quadcopters, consider Sparrowscope to be a lo-fi version of one. Copters are popular camera rigs for shooting footage from overhead, but can be expensive to buy and hard to use. The Sparrowscope lets you achieve aerial photography by using a kite and a smartphone. That’s right, a kite, that toy you used to be play with as a kid.

The Sparrowscope device is created by Ori Barbut, who has been doing research on robotics, electronics, and software design since graduating from the University of Toronto with a Master’s in Engineering. Since 2012, Barbut has been working to develop an easy way to take aerial photos after a discussion with friends during a picnic, and the idea of using a kite came to mind. Consumed with the idea, Barbut went to work on creating what would become the Sparrowscope.

The ways the Sparrowscope tilts and pans.
While the concept is simple, the Sparrowscope is anything but. Here’s how the whole thing works. First, you secure an iPhone, iPod Touch, or Android phone to the three elastic harness cords. The Sparrowscope is then connected to the smart device through the headphone jack. Audio signals from the Sparrowscope app tell the contraption (which has a built-in circuit board and recharges via Micro USB) how quickly to tilt up or down the phone tray, and how fast to turn the paddlewheel for panning left or right. The app can be set to Solo mode, where the smart device automatically takes photos, or can be paired with another iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or Android device as ground control (the app allows an iPhone to “talk” to an Android device), giving you a live-view image and controls by swiping at the screen. The Sparrowscope automatically shuts down to save power. Barbut has been testing the device for 16 months, and has never damaged the smart device attached.

Learn Digital Photography Now

After the Sparrowscope is set up, it’s attached to the kite, and here you’ll need to utilize the kite-flying skills you’ve developed to send the whole thing into the air. Three kite options are available, from a simple base model to a more advanced one. All kites come with a 300-foot braided line. Naturally, you should fly a kite where it’s safe, free from wires and obstacles.

An image taken from the Sparrowscope.

Barbut has successfully tested the device around Toronto. He acknowledges that the concept, known as kite aerial photography, isn’t new, but says the Sparrowscope “will be the most advanced one to ever be commercially produced…and leverages the technology in your smartphone or iPod Touch to make kite aerial photography significantly easier and less expensive than ever before.” The project is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter (which launched at the tail-end of the 125th anniversary of the first recorded kite aerial photographs by Arthur Batut, who was interested in using it for military reconnaissance), and if it’s successfully funded, it’ll ship to early backers in May 2014. A pledge of $190 will get you a Sparrowscope, more if you want to add a kite to it.

Before you roll your eyes at the project, realize that flying a kite was how Benjamin Franklin did his research on electricity. If it worked for him, it should work for aerial photography too.

Fitbit Force Activity Tracking Wristband Launches with Built In Altimeter Phone Notifications for iOS 7

Fitbit today has launched its newest wearable activity tracking device, the Fitbit Force, reports AllThingsD. The Bluetooth 4.0 wristband includes all the features of the popular Fitbit Flex activity wristband that was launched in May of last year, and adds new features such as a built-in altimeter that measures workout data such as stairs climbed, a bigger OLED screen, watch capabilities, and an "Active Minutes" feature that tracks the varying levels of exercise.
A powerful Force for everyday fitness, this sleek wristband is with you all the time. Stay motivated to keep moving with real-time stats right on your wrist. Track steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned, stairs climbed and active minutes throughout the day. At night, track your sleep and wake up silently with a vibrating alarm.
The device will gain additional features particular to iPhone users running iOS 7, including the ability to receive call notifications on the wristband. Reports AllThingsD:
Soon after launch, Fitbit will release a software update that will allow iPhone users running iOS 7 to receive notifications about incoming calls (name and phone number) on the Force’s display. The wristband can also vibrate to alert you to a call.

Including this feature is sort of an experiment for Fitbit to gauge people’s interest in getting these types of alerts on a fitness-tracking device. Based on the reaction, the company will then decide whether adding other notifications for things like new text messages and email makes sense.
The release of the Fitbit Force comes as Nike is expected to release a follow-up to its Fuelband activity tracker, along with speculation that Apple will release an iWatch wearable device in the relatively near future, a device which may also contain fitness tracking features.

The Fitbit Force wristband can be ordered from the Fitbit web store for $129.95, with shipments beginning in 3-4 weeks.

Epson EH LS10000 Laser projector 1080p with 4K simulation

Epson

The projector Epson EH-LS10000 sports a very sleek original design, combining simplicity and elegance. The special feature of this projector is the use of a dual laser as a light source. The result is deep blacks, a wider range of colors (full range of sRGB color even in dynamic mode, thanks to the cinema filter, it is possible to obtain color ranges DCI and Adobe RGB), a brightness of 1500 film and especially a life announced at 30,000 hours in economy mode, is much more substantial than the usual lamps. Samsung to launch Galaxy S5 with iris scanner by April

A VP at Samsung has confirmed the company will be launching its latest smartphones flagship, the Galaxy S5, by April. The executive vice president of mobile business at Samsung - Lee Young Hee - has shed some light on companys future plans about the Galaxy S5 flagship.
Just like its Galaxy S4 predecessor, Samsung is once again targeting March for the official announcement and April for the release date for the Galaxy S5. This means the manufacturer wont be bringing any flagship phones on the upcoming MWC in Barcelona next month.
Since the Galaxy S5 is going against Apples latest iPhone 5s and in the meantime it should be prepared for the upcoming iPhone 6, Samsung is considering a fingerprint sensor and an iris scanner options. Thus it will not only catchup with the competition but will go way ahead of it. According to Mrs. Lee, the company is exploring its options, so this is no guarantee the iris recognition technology will make it to the Galaxy S5 in time for release.
A brand new design is going to be one of the Galaxy S5 key features. Samsung has acknowledged the users werent impress at all with the Galaxy S4 reused design and thats why the company has gone "back to the basics" and created its new flagship from scratch. Here is what Lee Young Hee is saying about the new design:

"When we moved to S4 from S3, it’s partly true that consumers couldn’t really feel much difference between the two products from the physical perspective, so the market reaction wasnt as big. For the S5, we will go back to the basics. Mostly, its about the display and the feel of the cover."
Meanwhile gossip also has it that Samsung is working on a three-sided display for the Galaxy Note 3 successor. The innovative screen will let you see various notifications on the sides of your phone. Samsung has already demonstrated similar technology before, so it wont be a surprise if we actually see it implemented in the next flagship phablet. All this new technology also has a downside however and in this case it is the higher cost. Mrs. Lee confirms: "We are targeting consumers who want more professional use and tend to be willing to pay more for handsets".
Finally, Mrs. Lee unveiled Samsung is working on a second generation wearable device to replace the Galaxy Gear. It will add more functionality (especially health-related) and reduce the bulkiness. It will premiere with the Galaxy S5.
So, with most of these coming straight from Samsung, its almost certain to come out true. So if you ever worried that Samsungs well of innovation is starting to dry up, you dont have to anymore.

HTC Desire 826 new selfie phone with front camera Ultrapixel

HTCAlthough he started the 2015 CES with the launch of HTC Desire 320, at the end forecasts have been met and the Taiwanese company has launched the HTC Desire 826, which we discussed some time ago, and now it’s official. Although in the end we were kept awake until dawn, took a few hours to show what would be its new terminal on the Desire range as promised a few days ago. The new HTC Desire 826 is official and has, as the Desire EYE, with a focus lovers “selfies” since it has incorporated UltraPixel camera on the front.

With Snapdragon 615 and 2 GB of RAM

But a first thing first, is that this new mid-range comes with a 5.5-inch screen and FullHD resolution. Inside, and is what gives this category a step behind the larger is its Snapdragon 615 processor, one of the new family of 64bit Qualcomm that beyond being a quad core to 1, 7 GHz, also features connectivity LTE Cat 4 series terminals at home. Specifically, this HTC Desire 826 is a dual SIM with the particularity that the two cards can be can count 4G connections.

HTC

With a design that follows the aesthetics of HTC Desire 820, colorful and mixing various shades for polycarbonate shell with metallic accents, also highlights the use of a 13-megapixel rear camera with flash and aperture F / 2.0. However, as stated at the outset, this is a new “selfie-phone” and HTC has taken his UltraPixel technology, although in the rear chambers of the HTC One was not entirely understood, greatly enhances the front of Desire 826 with 4 megapixel sensor.

Completing the characteristics of RAM 2GB and 16GB for internal storage which can be expanded via microSD card, battery of 2600 mAh and the speaker system BoomSound front stereo for terminal with dimensions of 158 mm long by 77, 5 mm wide and 7.9 mm thick 183 plus grams.

How it happened with previous HTC Desire 820, your first stop will be the Asian market, at a price that is expected to be between 250 and 300 euros. It is already present in some western websites with the sign “Coming Soon”, which makes foresee that will jump to these regions being the first of the middle range of the Taiwanese brand, of course, will come with Android 5.0 Lollipop series and HTC Sense 7.

The corridors with Samsung Galaxy S6 and Microsoft’s Lumia – Open

The buzzing non-stop rumors in the tech world. Run anywhere ‘insiders’ to make blurry pics of unreleased devices. So we got this week the first vague reports about the Samsung Galaxy S6 and we saw the first Nokia Lumia which no longer stands.

LG starts rolling out new tablet line

Ha! Do you see the joke in the above headline? It is about the fact that LG – literally -. Are rolling out of tablets is They want to go because during the implementation of rollable displays in tablets, according to CNet, who spoke with researchers within the company. According to insiders who bring tablets fit within the reach of the normal consumer in a tube. Must LG has a roll-to-roll production method into use – that just sounds funny in this case – and replaces aluminum wire work copper for better. For now, they use flexible screens a little for their LG G Flex and their TVs.

Why is it useful to have a tablet roll? That seems LG itself did not yet know . Takes up less space? Less fragile? We shall see.

Nokia really, really, REALLY gone

This is not a clerical error, as of Tuesday there Microsoft Lumias.

This is not a clerical error, as of Tuesday there Microsoft Lumia’s.

We have been here I do not know how many times that there are never called Nokia smartphones after the acquisition of the Finnish phone manufacturer by Microsoft. But new Nokia Lumia were each presented once again. But is it really done. On November 11, Microsoft held a meeting where they present a smartphone without even somewhere called ‘Nokia’. Microsoft’s first phone with Windows Phone. What’s that? It would be just like the Lumia (yes, that name remains) 535 which may be pictures surfaced on a Chinese social network. A lot of specs also leaked: 5 “qHD screen (with a small ‘q’, so 960 x 540 pixels, 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB of storage, 5 MP camera, not very exciting all

. Should I My Sint Maarten circle cancel to follow the Microsoft presentation? If the above device is the only one, I’d go for the candy. But who knows what surprise is still there.

Time for the Samsung Galaxy S6

Let’s see. Apple is defecated for this year. The Galaxy Note 4 is already on sale. The new Nexus line is known. Then we can now start hyping the next big smartphone launch, the Samsung Galaxy S6. Sammobiles is in, the Koreans fist deep and already know to report some specs. They heard an insider on a Quad-HD screen still unknown format. A 16 or 20 megapixel sensor in the camera. A 64bit octa-core processor. 32 to 128GB of storage memory. Well, exactly what you expect from a Galaxy S6.
interestingly, but also a lot blurred, the assumption of Sammobiles that the device gets a totally new design. They lead after some mental gymnastics alter the fact that the code name of the Galaxy S6 ‘Project Zero’ is. And everyone knows that Project Zero means there are new … er … no, actually we have no idea. He is likely to be presented in March, but then we go in this section still very, very often write about.

Is it metal? Again, no one knows. We can compete with all the other sites and recommend: Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S6 of metal. Are you happy now?

The term Toshiba Shared Board is the purpose basically ago already. The technical data are rather unimportant and not very spectacular. It uses a 24-inch display with full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The operating system Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean is preinstalled, which has been extended in addition to some functions. This includes, for example, the representation of two Apps at the same time in a Multi-Window mode. Is powered by a 1.2 GHz tablet fast dual-core processor, 1.5 GB of available RAM and 16 GB of internal memory . There is WiFi n, Bluetooth 4.0 and an IR-Port with accompanying remote control for controlling the surface.

The Toshiba Shared Board can be used not only as a pure Tablet with its multi-touch display, but also as a display, eg for own PC but also for presentations or similar. For that the device not only has a normal HDMI output, but a second HDMI input. Thus, an external signal can be represented an example use in a store. Also works directly with Android or via an external source – alternatively wireless.

Toshiba

Toshiba has not called any price for the Shared Board TT301. There is already a special product that simply by something could cost more. The technical data cannot be expected in any case too high a price. So far, the 24-inch tablet is announced for Japan only, and will probably remain only there.
