Apple now allowing trade ins for water damaged devices

For its Reuse and Recycling Program, Apple has partnered with PowerON to buy used iPhones, iPads and Macs, as well as other non-Apple products. Until the recent policy revision, however, devices with liquid damage were not accepted.

As noted on Monday, Apples has lifted that particular restriction, though signs of liquid contact can substantially detract from a devices value.

For example, a good condition 64GB black iPhone 5 tied to AT&T would fetch $350 without water damage. With water damage, the same model drops down to $230. The lower price is to be expected, as recyclers are taking a risk in buying back a damaged item.

Apple points out that customers can assess their own devices by checking a liquid contact indicator usually located in the bottom of the headphone jack. If activated, the normally white or silver tab will show a red or pink color. The indicator is positioned on the bottom of the dock connector housing for the iPhone 3G and later, as well as all iPads. An exception is the iPhone 5, which has the indicator placed in the SIM card tray.

Apple first debuted the Reuse and Recycling Program in 2011 and offers Apple Store gift cards instead of cash for used products.

The Moto G 4G 2nd generation is now on sale but only in Brazil

Motorola

Overview on the Motorola site Brazil the last days of 2014, the Moto G 4G version 2015 is now available for sale. Suffice to say that we can expect the next exit on the international stage.

A page dedicated to the Moto G 2nd generation but in its 4G version had been seen in late December in Brazil. She pointed to a Moto G such that the device was announced at IFA 2014, with a 5-inch screen HD SoC Snapdragon 400 and 1 GB of RAM, this time with an expandable memory … but not only compatible with 3G (H +). In fact, this was the main criticism that could address this device also successful: while the international market, especially in Europe, placing on the deployment of 4G, the smartphone was deadlocked on a compatibility with the latest generation of network.

Motorola

The Moto G 4G is now detailed on the Motorola Brazil site with complete specifications and price to boot. We note however that if nothing changes in terms of screen or processor, the brand has been a little more generous than the standard Moto G in terms of memory. The terminal is indeed with 16 GB of internal storage with 8GB against the usual smartphone. Above all, it is compatible with 4G class 4 and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Its price, meanwhile, it exceeds that of the Moto G 3G 2014 edition, charged 189 euros. Indeed, it is offered on the Motorola site price of 899 real, or a little over 300 euros gross conversion. Recall, however, that taxes on imported products, especially on high-tech devices (game consoles, smartphones) lead to skyrocketing prices in Brazil. If the Moto G 4G is called out internationally, no doubt he will only cost a few dollars more than its 3G counterpart, if only because its characteristics (its Snapdragon 400 and not 410 ) will not allow Motorola to charge prices approaching those of a Moto X.

Pixelmator now available on the iPad for 4 99

Popular image editing application for OS X – Pixelmator – was announced for the iPad back at the iPad Air 2 launch event. The app is now available on the App Store and can be purchased for $4.99.
Pixelmator on OS X is a full fledged image creation and editing application. It can do most of the things that you can with Photoshop but at a fraction of the cost. But most importantly, it is beautifully made and works seamlessly with the OS as if it’s a native app.

Pixelmator for iPad is built along similar lines. Right from the icon to the UI design, the app feels like something that came out of Cupertino rather than a third party developer. As with the OS X app, you can create, edit and enhance images and designed to take full advantage of the 64-bit architecture on iPads running on the A7 and A8X processors, along with ARC, Grand Central Dispatch, OpenGL ES, Core Image, and Core Animation.
Pixelmator is available for $4.99, which includes the full app with no other in-app purchases.

Opera Mini beta for Windows Phone now available for anyone to test

The first public beta version of the Opera Mini browser for Windows Phone is now out in Microsoft’s dedicated app store. You can grab it and test it on your device, as long as it runs Windows Phone 8.x.
The beta was announced last week, when Opera prompted people to sign up in order to join its “beta testing group”. That seemed to imply that only those who signed up would be able to play with the Opera Mini beta, but that’s not the case – anyone can get it from the Windows Phone store.

This browser represents Opera’s first foray into Windows Phone territory. Opera Mini makes pages lighter, so they load faster and consume less data. It can go so far as to reduce a page down to 10% of its normal size. It also lets you share content easily, and browse safely.
Speed Dial, the well known home page is in, as is Smart Page – which lets you see instant updates from all of your social sites on one screen.

Google Now beats Siri and Cortana in voice search tests

Google Now edged out rivals like Apple’s Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana in a recent comparison test.

Google Now vs Siri and Cortana

A digital marketing firm claims Google Now returned more search results ‘enhanced with custom content’ than Siri and Cortana combined.

Consultants Stone Temple made 3086 queries in total to all three voice assistances. Google Now yielded a score of 1795 results with enhanced content, while Siri scored 908 and Cortana returned 630 ‘knowledge panels’

The queries were designed to answer specific questions rather than offer web results, according to Android Central, reporting on the comparison tests.

Google Now also scored highest for accuracy with 88 percent of questions properly addressed, while Siri and Cortana were correct 53 per cent and 40 per cent of the time respectively.

The study did not take into account how the respective assistants performed when it comes to making appointments via the app, or dictating words, only bringing the answers to specific questions.

Given Google’s status as global search overlord, we’d expect Google Now to come out on top in this department. While the tests are far from definitive, it still offers an interesting look at slice of a much larger pie.

Elsewhere today, Google Now got an update that’ll inform users when their bills are overdue. Thanks for nothing Google Now!

The Meizu M1 is now official 5 inch screen and LTE connectivity for 99 euros

The

Although yesterday were all foci positions in the presentation of financial results of Apple, Meizu has started today with the launch of one of the terminals of which has been pulling in more recent times, the Meizu M1 (Meilan in China) that finally has the name “mini” and will feature a 5-inch screen and LTE but especially with a price of 99 euros.

It was one of the terminal’s rumored in recent weeks, with leaks that, moreover, pointed to a close the iPhone 5c of Apple design but focuses directly to the range of prices and market its Chinese rival, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 – in fact, during the presentation, there have been many comparisons between these terminals -.

The Meizu M1 finally has a 5-inch HD resolution, ie, 720p, and with a density of 300 dpi. A polycarbonate body Pastel, as noted, makes it very similar to the iPhone 5c, relatively speaking software, price and size, pulling on the other hand to also model the Chinese company, the Meizu M1 Note.

The

 Front camera with f / 2.0

On the screen there is a 5 megapixel camera for front opening f / 2.0, which is the same as the main chambers have many other phones like the M1 Note and the same sensor powerful Meizu MX4 Pro. Behind has jumped in surprise as all bets assumed that would be an 8 megapixel and finally, Meizu has hook with a 13 MP and aperture f / 2.2 with LED flash, instead of dual tone.

Quad-Core 1.5 Ghz and support for microSD 128GB

Inside, only know some details of the processor since the company was short on details in this regard. It is a quad-core 1.5 Ghz, compatible with 64-bit technology and able to exceed 30,000 points in AnTuTu. Later it was confirmed that a MediaTek as was supposed, the only house with these characteristics is the MT6732, which comes accompanied by 1GB of RAM.

The

For storage has 8 GB but, and here’s a new brand for the first time support for microSD and Meizu has done well card is added, admitting up to 128 GB. Finally, it offers a battery of 2,610 mAh, signed by Sony, which promises a range of more than a day without problems and measures that make it thinner and thinner than the Xiaomi Redmi 2 (9.4 mm and 133 grams) marking 8.9 mm thick and 128 grams.

LTE… but only supported in China

Obviously a Android terminal, but has the Flyme OS, the fork Meizu is still based on KitKat and the whole package of connectivity including Wi-Fi n, Bluetooth 4.0 and LTE but only TD-LTE by time, which makes it incompatible with networks outside China but it will work over 3G GSM networks. And to show their focus to dethrone the Redmi 2 has the same price as this one, 699 yuan for the six variants which are to change just 99 euros, which places it among the most interesting economic terminal end market.

The Meizu M1 is now official: 5 inch screen and LTE connectivity for 99 euros

Connection from brain to brain! Now Thats Possible

Its a long held ambition of several scientists to achieve success in direct brain-to-brain communications. Recently the ambition has moved one step closer at an experiment held at University of Washington.

The experiment conducted at University of Washington featuring two volunteers over internet transmitting signals from one brain to another was a mere live example of the power of human brain.

In the latest tests it was shown clearly that the team was able to control the hand of the subject remotely by making one subject thinking of moving the hand to operate the game controller.

The researchers used a combination of two different non-evasive devices and softwares specifically designed for the task, to measure the transmitted brain signals in real time.

One volunteer has an electroencephalograph wired to its brains, to read the specific activity and send the signals via internet to the second volunteer, who is wired with transcranial magnetic stimulation to locate and control the hand movements.

Through this experiment, the researchers are very confident in bringing a new horizon in brain-to-brain interface.
