Samsung Galaxy Alpha vs HTC One mini 2 Metal mania

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha comes forward as the next super mini but its armor will surely be tested in battle against the HTC One mini 2. The two have their distinct strengths but enough common ground to meet on - compact and metal.
Samsung Galaxy Alpha vs. HTC One Mini 2
The Galaxy Alpha is lighter and much thinner but Samsung used aluminum sparingly. HTC covered all of the One mini 2 in metal. The Galaxy Alpha has processing power to spare while the One mini 2 has a midrange chipset. The HTC brings the trademark BoomSound speakers while the Samsung promises a better camera.
Before you place your bets, heres specs the rundown.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha over One mini 2

  • More powerful chipset with double the RAM
  • Slightly bigger screen - 4.7" vs. 4.5"
  • More compact and much thinner - 6.7mm vs. 10.6mm
  • 16:9 camera sensor
  • 2160p video capture
  • Faster LTE downlink - 300Mbps vs. 150Mbps
  • Fingerprint scanner
  • Heart rate monitor

HTC one mini 2 over Galaxy Alpha

  • Aluminum unibody
  • Front-facing stereo speakers
  • Expandable storage
  • Bigger battery - 2,110mAh (sealed) vs. 1,860mAh (removable)
  • Better front-facing camera - 5MP vs. 2.1MP
  • Costs less
Its no surprise that the Galaxy Alpha has the faster chipset and more features, Samsung loves heaping those on. What it cant get quite right is nailing down that premium feel that HTC has been nailing since the original One. Geeks are more willing to forgive plastic, while premium users care less about the performance.
Theres no perfect middle ground, a phone that combines the looks of the One mini 2 and the brains of the Galaxy Alpha. Apple fans might argue that the description matches the iPhone but in the Android world theres no exact match. The Xperia Z3 Compact comes close but that calls for its own piece.

The screen size explosion brought us the phablet segment, which basks in growing popularity but, unfortunately, it left midsized devices in the midrange. Now were seeing the tide turn a bit with compact high-enders like the Samsung Galaxy Alpha and the HTC One mini 2 but that direction puts them on a collision course. Flip over to the next page for the first punches exchange.

Opera Mini beta for Windows Phone now available for anyone to test

The first public beta version of the Opera Mini browser for Windows Phone is now out in Microsoft’s dedicated app store. You can grab it and test it on your device, as long as it runs Windows Phone 8.x.
The beta was announced last week, when Opera prompted people to sign up in order to join its “beta testing group”. That seemed to imply that only those who signed up would be able to play with the Opera Mini beta, but that’s not the case – anyone can get it from the Windows Phone store.

This browser represents Opera’s first foray into Windows Phone territory. Opera Mini makes pages lighter, so they load faster and consume less data. It can go so far as to reduce a page down to 10% of its normal size. It also lets you share content easily, and browse safely.
Speed Dial, the well known home page is in, as is Smart Page – which lets you see instant updates from all of your social sites on one screen.

The Canon LEGRIA mini X camcorder shows its potential in video

Canon

The Canon LEGRIA series features a good range of camcorders of all kinds, among which is the Canon LEGRIA mini X a mini camera that can be placed anywhere to get the most creative and sharp planes. It is intended as auxiliary camera for film professionals or shorts can record images in tight spaces or awkward places, as Canon has shown in a promotional video of this little camera. It is very compact and versatile in the sense that you can anchor to almost any surface and its lens is very light, to get good results but the light is not intense, such as when shooting indoors. It also integrates an LCD screen, microphone and connections to share images or copy them to another medium.

The Canon LEGRIA mini X is designed to improve video productions, handling these complicated plans for large cameras. As is so small, you can get very creative framing. In the video we see as holding the car rear view mirror, getting closer the subject up. It is also useful if for example we want to record from inside a closet or take a subjective level as a resource. The Canon LEGRIA mini X offers very good quality and always framed flat thanks to its lens with f / 2.8 and so ultra wide angle or fisheye. In this way we can record from very close range those subjects out of the frame, although slightly deformed. To avoid reducing the foreground field of view to 64 degrees there mode. In this case the integrated stabilizer is necessary, as it helps to minimize camera shake, resulting in a more stable and smooth-motion video. The resolution is FullHD videos and can be stored in MP4 or 24Mbps AVCHD format. Besides its HDMI connection does not compress the signal. It also records videos in slow motion or fast motion, reducing the speed and multiplying by four. Includes an interval recording mode or Time-lapse, convenient to represent the time quickly.

Its design makes it possible for us to be placed anywhere. It has a universal tripod with which we hold different accessories. The screen is hinged, to see the frame easily from any position and also includes a foldable stand for placement on flat surfaces. As mentioned, includes a stereo microphone can be adjusted manually. However, if the Canon LEGRIA mini X is used as auxiliary chamber, it is normal that the sound comes from another microphone, but can always be used to complement the main audio track. Finally highlight its WiFi connection to transfer photos to another computer or control from your smartphone or tablet.

As we see in the video, drawings made with the Canon LEGRIA mini X have the same quality as those made with large format cameras. Canon LEGRIA mini X is very practical and versatile camera and costs about 400 euros.
