BBM Crashing Under iOS 7 0 3 Here’s How To Fix It

After finally getting BBM on your iPhone this week, you may have upgraded to iOS 7.0.3 to find it no longer works properly. One of the fonts BlackBerry uses in its app is no longer supported by Apple, causing the app to crash when you open existing chats. But there is a way around it.

All you need to do is kill all of your existing conversations and start new ones. It means you’ll lose your chat history, but there’s really no way to avoid that, unfortunately — unless you just want to wait for BlackBerry to issue an update. If you can’t, here’s what you need to do:
  1. Open up the BBM app and make sure you’re looking at the “Chats” page.
  2. Tap and hold on one of your chats until the menu bar slides out from the right.
  3. Now tap the trash can icon (bottom right) to delete the chat.

You’ll need to do this for every conversation, but once it’s done, you’ll be able to chat to those contacts again. You may have noticed that this issue doesn’t affect contacts you hadn’t opened conversations with prior to updating to iOS 7.0.3.

The alternative to this workaround — if you have loads of conversations and can’t be bothered to delete them all one-by-one — is to delete BBM and install it again from the App Store. Alternatively, if you’re not in any rush to fix it, you can just wait for BlackBerry to issue an update. The Canadian company has acknowledged this problem, and it’s told us an update should be available today.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Galaxy Note 3 to get Android 4 4 update in January

Samsung has been tight-lipped about the rollout of Android 4.4 KitKat for its premium smartphones, including its 2013 flagships, the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3.However, French carrier, SFR has claimed that the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 will receive the Android 4.4 KitKat update by the end-of-January and in early-February respectively. The French carrier has also revealed that it will announce the exact dates for the update release soon.
The Android 4.4 KitKat iteration brings some new features such as the translucent menu bar, which is located at the bottom of the screen; new dialler and caller ID; unified Hangouts messaging app; smarter Google Now integration; step counter and detector, and support for screen recording. Its worth pointing out that Samsung uses its TouchWiz UI on top of the Android OS and it is still to be seen, what changes are introduced in the new company UI.
Samsung has still been pushing the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for its top of the line smartphones that include the 2012 flagship, Galaxy S III; and its 2013 flagships, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note II.
Notably, the Android 4.3 update for Galaxy S III, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note II brings Galaxy Gear support, Samsungs first wearable tech device, which only supported the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition at the time of launch.
In November, Google and Samsung released the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition, soon after the HTC One Google Play Edition received the update.
Smartphone manufacturers such as HTC, Motorola and Sony had already revealed plans for the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade soon after the release of the new OS. However, Samsung has been a late entrant for announcing the Android 4.4 KitKat update for its Galaxy line of smartphones.

Xiaomis Jain Says Mi 3 Not Discontinued Wont Confirm When Sales Will Resume

After reports on Wednesday that Xiaomi was discontinuing the Xiaomi Mi 3 in India, NDTV Gadgets spoke to Manu Jain, head of Xiaomi India, who clarified that the reports were off the mark.
"For the next few weeks, we will be focusing on the Redmi 1S, but we have not discontinued the Mi 3 in India," said Jain. "I cant give an exact timeline because we dont have any data on the Redmi 1S right now, but we are certainly not discontinuing the Mi 3 right now."
In light of the extremely short availability of the Mi 3 in India - just over a month of sales, followed by the Redmi 1S launch, many people felt that India was being used solely for stock clearance of older Mi 3 models, but Jain dismissed the notion.
"We had not expected the kind of demand we got at all," he said. "Both the Mi 3 and the powerbank have been selling out completely. The powerbank, we believed, experts told us, the market was around 30,000 to 40,000 units per month. The demand has completely outstripped that."
With the Mi 3 too, the demand has hugely outstripped the supply, which is the only reason, Jain insists, that the company does not have any units available at the moment. However that does not mean they can simply pick up extra units from other markets and bring them to India, he clarified.
"We are 100 percent committed to India. But everything, from the software, to the manuals, to the charger, to even the packaging, has to be localised," said Jain. "Each country has its own set of regulations, whether its writing the SAR value or getting everything cleared, and the units we sell in China cant be sold just like that in India."
Over time, he says, fresh stocks could be readied for India, depending on the market data being gathered now.
Once Xiaomi has more data about the demand for the Redmi 1S, he says, then it will be able to make better decisions about the kind of stocks required for all products, and react to the market in accordance.
But does this mean that at least at the time of launching new handsets, Xiaomi will only sell one device at a time, adding others later if demand permits? Jain said that it is too soon to say what the official policy is going to be.
"We are still a very young company, and were still learning," he said. "We are just five weeks old in India, and we are figuring out what works for the market.

Xiaomi Mi 3 vs Xiaomi Mi 4

The Xiaomi Mi 3, one of the most popular smartphones in China, is up against its own successor, the Mi 4. Two generations ready to clash: boxes opened, benchmarks loaded, audio on, cameras rolling, batteries charged.
The Xiaomi Mi 4 has more RAM and a third-gen Snapdragon 801 chipset, along with LTE connectivity - all that in a slimmer, more compact shell. The upgraded specs go with an entirely new look with a handful of exchangeable rear covers to choose from.
Xiaomi Mi 4 Xiaomi Mi 4 Xiaomi Mi 4 Xiaomi Mi 4
Xiaomi Mi 4 official pictures
The Mi 3 on the other hand is powered by the previous version of that same chipset and is still a perfectly good package for the price. The big things missing are 4G data and 4K videos - both easily rendered irrelevant if a) theres no LTE network where you live or b) you go for the 16GB version. With things like Gorilla Glass 3 and NFC surprisingly missing, is the Mi4 worth the upgrade?

Xiaomi Mi 3 Xiaomi Mi 3 Xiaomi Mi 3 Xiaomi Mi 3
Xiaomi Mi 3 official pictures
In a matter of hours well be reminded again of the difference between one particular phone and all others. Six full editions thereof and a couple of in-betweens - blessed and cursed, loved and hated, admired and imitated. Made in China, to the very last one.
The reminder we need though is that the difference between Chinese (as in "Cant pronounce the brand name") and the "Made in China" stamp on the back of an iPhone isnt what it used to be. A vast market with soaring smartphone demand, the growth of 3G and 4G networks, combined with improved skill and expertise, have seen a number of Chinese makers emerge from the pack with self-awareness and confidence.
Xiaomi has a prominent spot on that shortlist and plenty of reasons to be called "Apple of the East", both right and wrong. Still one foot in the copycat phase, but a couple of generations of flagships too that can compete with the best of them. Now, theyll compete against each other for a change.

Xiaomi Mi 4 over Mi 3

  • Higher CPU clock speed - 2.5GHz vs. 2.3GHz
  • 3GB RAM vs 2GB RAM
  • Improved camera sensor with wider aperture
  • 2160p video recording
  • 8MP front-facing camera vs 2MP
  • LTE connectivity
  • IR blaster
  • TV-out via MHL-enabled microUSB port
  • Rich set of exchangeable rear covers

Xiaomi Mi 3 vs Mi 4

  • Polycarbonate premium unibody vs cheap plastic with metal frame
  • Gorilla Glass 3
  • Dual LED flash vs single-LED
  • NFC connectivity
So, Xiaomi has two smartphone generations in less than a year, impressively equipped and competitively priced. Theyre officially meant for the Asian Pacific region, the domestic market probably the main target, but the build quality and features for the price will get enough attention elsewhere.
Both devices are available as we speak at less than $400 for the Mi 3 and $500 for the Mi 4 - thats the price of the 64GB version. The upgrade comes in at a little over $100 - more than a reasonable premium if you can make the best of the LTE and the 2160p video. That makes the Mi 3 the budget option but the obvious underdog has enough going for it.

As usual, well try to look beyond the dry specs and put things in perspective. Our side-by-side hardware comparison follows right after the break.

‘Samsung testing Android 4 4 3 for Samsung Galaxy S5 all’ – Android World

According to a source from the usually well-informed SamMobile Samsung is currently already working on testing the still unannounced Android 4.4.3. An update to the new version of KitKat appears less long after the official announcement to come.

Android 4.4.3

Google has not officially confirmed the existence of Android 4.4.3, but by putting a list of changes online by mistake, the company has already an indirect confirmation given. Android 4.4.3 is not a major update compared to Android 4.4.2, the version of Android KitKat now running on Samsung Galaxy S5. What Samsung itself so far will add to the new version of KitKat is not yet known.

SamMobile has its source informed that Samsung is currently testing an update to Android 4.4.3 for the Samsung Galaxy Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5 LTE-A, a variant that is not available in the Netherlands and Belgium. Currently the update is still in the ‘integration’ phase, which means that the proprietary software and interface are integrated in Android 4.4.3. It is expected that Samsung will update the display after Google has begun updating its Nexus devices to 4.4.3. Pass freely

For half year Google gives certain partners a preview of Android versions that will follow. The information, called Platform Development Kit, can be used to start the inte rendered own software in a new version Android, so that updates can follow an announcement faster. This should also ensure that new devices are equipped with the latest Android version that is available at that time.

Samsung KitKat for other devices

In the table below you can see that the update process of a number of other Samsung devices to Android 4.4.2 is on schedule. The table is again confirmed that the update to Android 4.4 (KitKat) for the Galaxy S III ‘unstable’ and an update for this phone to 4.4.2 (or 4.4.3) thus seems unlikely.

Samsung

Availability

When can we expect a possible update to Android 4.4.3 is not yet certain. It seems likely that the update for the Samsung Galaxy S5 will follow in July. For other devices, it is difficult to predict if and when an update will follow. Samsung has the information in the data received by SamMobile not confirmed, but in the past proved to be the source of that website very reliable
