iOS 7 beats up on Android Windows Phone in user experience comparison


A new report by technology consultants Pfeiffer Consulting has found that iOS significantly outranks Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry phones in user experience satisfaction.
Pfeiffer didnt want user "fan" bias entering into the equation, so the company only looked at "aspects that have a direct impact on the day-to-day user experience of an average, non-technical user."

The results show that Apples iOS 6 and iOS 7 best the other operating systems in all four main categories: cognitive load, efficiency, customization and user experience friction. The results, according to Pfeiffer:
The combined results of the four different benchmarks and evaluations give iOS 7 a clear advantage in terms of overall user experience, taking into account the context defined for these benchmarks: day-to-day user experience of an average, non-technical user.

Tim Cook shows up at Palo Alto Apple Store for iPhone launch

Apple customers waiting in line for the new iPhone at the companys Palo Alto retail location got a special treat on Friday: a visit from Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook.

Cook showed up at the Palo Alto University Apple Store Friday morning to greet the Apple faithful as they queued to buy the new iPhone 5c and 5s. AppleInsider reader Ben reports that Cook "shook the hands of everyone in line and then went on his way."

Reportedly, the Palo Alto retail location had only 10 gold iPhone 5s units, and the Stanford location sold out of gold units by the 15th customer. That is in keeping with recent reports that show that unit in even scarcer supply than other models. Still, demand remains high for all 5s units, as AppleInsider has been informed that the Palo Alto location also sold out of silver models by the 35th customer.

The launch of a new iPhone has become a yearly media event marked by long customer lines and weeks of hype. Cooks appearance at the Palo Alto location is in keeping with a tradition of Apple executives showing up to product launches. In 2010, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs appeared at the Palo Alto Apple Store for the launch of the iPad, sporting his signature black turtleneck, a hoodie, and ripped jeans.

Additional reports have emerged that other Apple executives have been spotted at other Apple retail locations. Twitter user Salim Hafid (@sqreone) sighted Apples Phil Schiller and Eddy Cue at the companys Stanford store on Friday.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 could offer download speeds of up to 450 Mbps

IBM Nvidia Team up To Build Worlds Fastest Supercomputer

The US energy department will spend $325 million in collaboration with IBM, Nvidia and Mellanox to create the worlds fastest supercomputers, Sierra and Summit by 2017.

According to some trusted sources, the supercomputer with two GPU acceleration will be composed of OpenPower chips by IBM, the latest graphic chip Volta, by Nvidia and the high speed network system by Mellanox to club everything together.

Summit is developed for civilian and scientific purpose at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee, its more powerful compared to the other supercomputer and can deliver 150 to 300 peak petaflops.


On the other hand, Sierra is believed to deliver above 100 peak petaflops and its purpose is to serve in nuclear weapons simulations at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Both the supercomputers will be the next champs crushing all the prevailing supercomputers. Titan by Oak Ridge holds the US record at 27 peak petaflops and Chinas Tianhe-2 holds the world at 55 peak petaflops.

IBM is also experimenting a new technique called "Data Centric" approach, using this technique the computing power can reside everywhere data is placed, and moreover it can minimize the motion date and energy consumption as well.

Samsung develops Wi Fi 802 11ad standard with speeds of up to 4 6Gbps

Wi-Fi 802.11ac is just starting to gain traction, but Samsung is already looking ahead. The company has announced that it has managed to complete the development of the Wi-Fi 802.11ad standard and is ready to commercialize it.
The new standard operates at a 60GHz frequency and enables high transmission speeds of up to 4.6Gbps, which is 575MB/s. That’s an increase of five times compared to the 802.11ac standard, which is capable of 866Mbps, or 108MB/s.


Samsung says that the 802.11ad standard maintains maximum speed by eliminating the co-channel interface and thus removing the gap between theoretical and actual speeds. The 60GHz frequency is more than 10 times faster than that of 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi technologies. The company also went quite technical in explaining why commercializing the standard was a bit of an issue.
Until now, there have been significant challenges in commercially adopting 60GHz Wi-Fi technology , as millimeter waves that travel by line-of-sight has weak penetration properties and is susceptible to path loss, resulting in poor signal and data performance. By leveraging millimeter-wave circuit design and high performance modem technologies and by developing wide-coverage beam-forming antenna, Samsung was able to successfully achieve the highest quality, commercially viable 60GHz Wi-Fi technology.
But it’s not only the speed boost that the new standard offers. Just like its predecessor, the new standard enhances signal quality and distance by developing world’s first micro beam-forming control technology. Impressively, it optimizes the communications module in less than 1/3,000 seconds.
So, when can we have this sweet Wi-Fi 802.11ad goodness? Samsung says that worldwide commercialization of the standard is expected as early as next year. Make sure that the company will bring the 802.11ad standard to its smartphones, tablets, Smart Home products as well as its medical devices.
